Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is an internationally recognized intensive training regarding signs & symptoms, intervention strategies, discussion of the suicide intervention model, intervention practice via scenarios, and equips people to respond knowledgeably and competently to persons at risk of suicide. Participants learn and practice skills in identifying and responding to people at immediate risk of suicide. Just as "CPR" skills make physical first aid possible, training in suicide intervention develops the skills used in suicide first aid. Skills training programs should address caregiver attitudes towards suicide since these personal elements affect willingness to help and the effectiveness of the help. Such programs also typically explore options for linking people with resources for ongoing help.

After training, participants should be able to: 1. Understand the principles of suicide prevention first aid, 2. Explain the suicide prevention model, 3. Identify individuals who are suicidal, or at-risk of suicide, 4. Feel comfortable in responding to immediate suicide crisis situations.

Trainers: William "Van" VanLandingham, Pam Harder, & Jan Torgeson

This is a 2-day training. Both days must be completed to receive a training certificate.

This training runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM both days. There is a mid-morning and mid-afternoon break, and a 1-hr lunch break on your own.
